
A study involving 1113 participants, including those with early Parkinson’s disease (PD) and prodromal PD, investigated the relationship between sleep disorders and serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels. Results showed that individuals with specific sleep behaviors, such as rapid eye movement behavior disorder (RBD), had higher serum NfL levels, indicating potential neuronal damage. Longitudinal findings supported these associations, suggesting that monitoring NfL levels could aid in early PD detection and tracking disease progression. The study highlights the importance of identifying sleep disorders early and utilizing NfL as a biomarker for timely intervention and treatment evaluation in PD.
