B cells in colonic mucosal healing

A study explores the role of B cells during intestinal mucosal healing following injury. First, the researchers observed a substantial expansion of interferon-induced B cells during mucosal healing in an experimental mouse model of colitis (specifically, dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced). The study findings agree with the accumulation of B cells observed in the inflamed tissue of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). As the role of B cells during the healing process was completely unknown, the authors decided to investigate the role of B cells during intestinal mucosal healing.
