
Advances in perinatal care have improved the survival of extremely preterm infants born at 22–23 weeks. However, there are variations in outcomes, and concerns remain about brain injury, impaired neurodevelopment, and cerebral palsy. Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is a major issue linked to hemodynamic instability. A study introduced early hemodynamic screening (HS) using targeted neonatal echocardiography (TnECHO) to assess cardiovascular and pulmonary function in newborns. The study found a nearly 50% reduction in death/severe IVH with HS, despite challenging gestational ages. This highlights the importance of personalized, physiology-driven care for preterm infants and the potential of TnECHO in refining treatments and research.
