Bilateral simultaneous cochlear implants in children

The study aimed to assess hearing outcomes in simultaneously implanted bilateral deaf children and determine optimal surgery timing. Audiological cochlear implant (CI) results were analyzed in short and long-term periods, categorizing patients by age at surgery. Short-term outcomes favored younger patients in aided pure tone audiometry. Early implantation correlated with improved hearing outcomes at ages 2 to 5 years in long-term follow-up. Perceptive levels were superior at 4 years for the younger group. Results suggested better hearing performances for children implanted before 24 months.
