The connection between adenomyomatous hyperplasia of the Vaterian system (AV) and cancer remains unclear. While some reports suggest an association between AV and mucosal glandular dysplasia, it is uncertain if the dysplasia acts as a risk factor for AV carcinogenesis. The study retrospectively analyzed 328 cases of adenomyomatous hyperplasia at the Chinese PLA General Hospital, finding that AV is linked to biliary tract and ampullary cancer. Mucosal glandular dysplasia in AV may contribute to malignancy, indicating AV as a potential precancerous lesion. The study emphasizes the need for further exploration of AV's carcinogenic mechanisms.
