BLAST Wristbands Enhance EMDR for Methotrexate Intolerance in JIA

The study investigated the effectiveness of BLAST (bi-lateral alternating stimulation tactile) wristbands in enhancing the effects of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for treating methotrexate (MTX) intolerance in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Eighty-seven patients were divided into two groups: 53 receiving EMDR alone and 34 receiving EMDR with BLAST wristbands. The Methotrexate Intolerance Severity Score (MISS) and PedsQL were used to measure outcomes. Both groups experienced significant improvement in MTX intolerance symptoms post-treatment, with BLAST wristband users reporting sustained benefits at 4 and 12 months. Repeated measures ANOVA confirmed statistically significant differences in symptom reduction and quality of life improvements over time (p < 0.001).
