In a meta-regression of 44 trials (n=274,800), glucose-lowering therapies reduced all-cause mortality (HR 0.93). Each 1-kg weight loss was linked to a 3.4% lower mortality risk, even after adjusting for HbA1c. Separately, each 1% HbA1c drop reduced risk by 7.6%. These findings highlight the independent and additive benefits of weight and glucose control in reducing mortality in type 2 diabetes.
