This systematic review and meta-analysis explore the association between diabetes mellitus (DM) and bullous pemphigoid (BP), an autoimmune blistering disease. Examining 17 studies, predominantly case–control studies from Europe and Asia, the meta-analysis reveals a significant association (pooled odds ratio: 2.06; 95% CI: 1.61–2.62) between DM and BP. Despite strong heterogeneity, this evidence suggests a potential link, possibly attributed to diabetes-induced immune system and skin alterations. While the study demonstrates strengths in methodology and sample size, limitations include varying study quality and potential bias. Further research is needed to unravel the underlying mechanisms of this association.
