In 2019, global prevalence reached 471.1 million cases with 15.9 million disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), projected to rise to 640.3 million cases and 18.9 million DALYs by 2030. While prevalence rates increased, DALY rates decreased, suggesting a changing disease landscape. Cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and near vision loss exhibited rising trends, particularly impacting women and low Socio-demographic Index regions, underscoring significant public health challenges.

An experimental triple antibiotic paste containing nitrofurantoin, ciprofloxacin, and metronidazole showed better cytocompatibility than conventional Hoshino antibiotic pastes and calcium hydroxide in human dental pulp stem cells. The paste maintained about 75% metabolic activity and better preserved cell viability, supporting further investigation as a medicament for regenerative endodontic procedures.

As a single-arm study, the findings are descriptive and require controlled confirmation.
