The obesity crisis has led to chronic inflammation in individuals with excess visceral fat due to cytokine and chemokine release. This study aimed to find anti-inflammatory agents to mitigate this inflammation. Using a protocol for incubating human visceral adipose tissue with low-dose lipopolysaccharide (LPS), researchers identified sodium butyrate and tributyrin as effective agents. Both significantly reduced LPS-induced inflammatory cytokine production and were non-toxic at tested concentrations. RNA-Seq analysis highlighted IL-36γ as a key gene affected by these agents. The findings suggest sodium butyrate and tributyrin could alleviate chronic inflammation in obese individuals.
