Cabergoline Therapy Linked to Weight Loss in Acromegaly Patients

The study evaluated the impact of cabergoline (CAB) on glucose metabolism and weight in patients with acromegaly. Twenty-six patients underwent continuous CAB treatment for at least 6 months, with 19 patients also evaluated at 12 months. The findings demonstrated that CAB effectively controlled biochemical parameters, with significantly lower insulin-like growth factor I and prolactin levels at 6 and 12 months compared to baseline. While no marked improvements in metabolic parameters were observed, the study revealed a significant reduction in weight and body mass index at both 6 and 12 months. These results confirm the efficacy of CAB in managing acromegaly and suggest its potential to provide rapid and sustained benefits on weight and body composition in these patients.
