Candida Acid Production and Fluoride Resistance in Dental Caries

Candida species produce acids under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, contributing to dental caries. Despite fluoride sensitivity of enolase (IC₅₀: 0.19–0.34 mM), most species showed high fluoride resistance in growth and acid production, except for C. glabrata. Organic acids accounted for only 1.9–57.6% of total acids. Alternative approaches beyond fluoride may be needed to control Candida-associated caries.
