Cardiac and Metabolic Effects of Dapagliflozin in Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction: The CAMEO-DAPA Trial

This study investigated the effects of dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2), on patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The trial found that dapagliflozin treatment reduced pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) at rest and during exercise in HFpEF patients compared to the placebo. Additionally, dapagliflozin led to decreased body weight and plasma volume but had no significant impact on red blood cell volume. Although there were no differences in oxygen consumption during exercise, dapagliflozin reduced arterial lactate levels. These findings shed light on the beneficial hemodynamic mechanisms of SGLT2 inhibitors in HFpEF.
