Cardiovascular Risks Higher in LADA Compared to T1D and T2D

The study examined cardiovascular risks and complications among 36,959 people with diabetes—type 1 (T1D), latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), and type 2 (T2D)—using data from the DPV registry (1995–2022). At diagnosis, individuals with LADA (n=747) had intermediate levels of age, BMI, waist circumference, C-peptide, and HbA1c compared to T1D (n=940) and T2D (n=35,272) groups. At follow-up, the adjusted prevalence of dyslipidemia and hypertension was highest in LADA (90.6%, 77.7%), with diabetic kidney disease (44.2%) and peripheral neuropathy (55.1%) more common than in T1D or T2D. Treatment coverage for hypertension and dyslipidemia was limited, especially in T1D. Findings highlight the need for enhanced recognition and management of cardiovascular risks in people with LADA.
