Ceramide Imbalance and Lipid Disruption Linked to Sensitive Skin

A study of 66 Japanese women found lower levels of key ceramides in sensitive skin (SS), along with impaired intercellular lipid structure and reduced corneocyte size. The CER[NP]/[NS] ratio correlated with hypersensitivity and inflammation markers. These findings suggest that abnormal epidermal turnover and lipid composition contribute to SS pathophysiology, offering potential therapeutic targets for improved skin barrier function.
