Long-term cervical lymphadenectomy (cLE), a common surgery for head and neck cancer, may impair brain waste clearance and trigger Alzheimer's-like tau buildup. In mice, cLE activated the ERK pathway, disrupting autophagy and promoting phosphorylated tau accumulation. These findings raise concerns about cognitive effects in patients undergoing cLE and call for deeper neurological evaluation.
