Childhood Myopia and COVID-19: A Comprehensive Review of Pandemic-Related Risk Factors

A study covering 1.4 million children and adolescents sheds light on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on childhood myopia. Most studies (76.9%) defined myopia as a spherical equivalent refraction (SER) of -0.5 dioptres or lower. Interestingly, 77.8% reported increased screen time during the pandemic, though only one study used objective measurements. The review also highlights a need for more robust study methodologies, including accounting for potential confounders.
