Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced the approval of crovalimab by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China for treating PNH in adults and adolescents. Developed using Chugai’s Recycling Antibody technology, crovalimab binds to C5 complement protein, offering sustained inhibition with subcutaneous administration every four weeks. Its efficacy extends due to repeated antigen binding. The approval, based on various studies including COMMODORE trials, marks China as the first to approve crovalimab. It targets a specific C5 gene mutation, promising relief for patients. Clinical trials for other conditions like aHUS are underway.
