Circulating CC16 and Asthma: A Population-based, Multicohort Study from Early Childhood through Adult Life

This study reveals that CC16 deficits are linked to an increased risk of asthma, particularly with frequent symptoms. The association holds for both atopic and nonatopic asthma, independent of lung function impairment. Moreover, low CC16 levels in early childhood predict a nearly fourfold increased risk of persistent asthma symptoms into adulthood. These findings suggest a potential protective role of CC16 in asthma and its utility for risk stratification.
