This study evaluated the effects of implant placement at different levels (crestal and subcrestal) on peri-implant soft tissue and marginal bone loss (MBL) in posterior areas. Nineteen patients received a total of 42 implants in a split-mouth design. After a healing period, implant-supported prostheses were delivered, and measurements were taken at various time points. The results showed that implants placed subcrestally had lower MBL than crestally placed implants. Additionally, the subcrestal group had greater peri-implant probing depth (PD) and soft tissue height. These findings suggest that subcrestal placement with platform-switching and internal conical connection may offer advantages in terms of MBL and peri-implant soft tissue characteristics.
