Clinical Feasibility and Familiarization Effects of Device Delay Mismatch Compensation in Bimodal CI/HA Users

This study examined the effects of compensating for device delay mismatch in individuals using both a cochlear implant (CI) and a hearing aid (HA) simultaneously. The mismatch in stimulation timing caused by different processing latencies of the CI and HA can disrupt auditory nerve stimulation. By compensating for this mismatch, sound source localization accuracy can be significantly improved. The study investigated the feasibility of using this compensation parameter in clinical settings and explored the effects of familiarization with the compensated mismatch over a 3-4 week period. The results demonstrated improved sound localization bias and a moderate improvement in accuracy. However, speech understanding in noise did not show significant improvement with the compensated mismatch. The findings suggest that this compensation parameter can be beneficial for individuals with poor sound localization abilities.
