Clinical pharmacist-led assessment and management of anticholinergic burden and fall risk in geriatric patients

This study investigates the correlation between anticholinergic drug burden, as assessed by the Anticholinergic Cognitive Burden Scale, and the risk of falls in older adults. A total of 601 patients were analyzed, revealing a 2.50 times increased fall risk in those with high anticholinergic burden. Clinical pharmacist interventions effectively reduced anticholinergic burden and subsequent fall risk. The Aachen Falls Prevention Scale was employed for fall risk assessment.
