Cognition in patients with post‐bariatric hypoglycemia

A study investigated cognitive function differences in individuals who had undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, with some experiencing post-bariatric hypoglycemia (PBH) and others not (PBH-). Among 14 participants, those with PBH exhibited reduced performance in category fluency, switching, and accuracy, along with lower verbal fluency in specific intervals. These findings suggest that PBH+ individuals may face a higher risk of cognitive impairment, affecting semantic processing, cognitive flexibility, and word retrieval initiation and maintenance. These insights shed light on the cognitive aspects of bariatric surgery outcomes.
