A study revealed the significant health and economic burden of cognitive impairment (CI) among individuals aged 65 and above with diabetes. The study found that CI led to lower mental and physical health scores, reduced health utility, and increased healthcare utilization. Those with CI experienced more ambulatory visits, prescriptions, home care, and ER visits, resulting in annual expenditures exceeding $5,000 more than those without CI. This research sheds light on the importance of addressing CI in older individuals with diabetes to improve their quality of life and reduce healthcare costs.
