Combined screening of early childhood development, hearing and vision by community health workers using mHealth tools in a low-income community

A study revealed that mHealth screening tools empower community health workers to identify developmental delays and sensory impairments in children from low-income communities. The study involved 63 children aged four to six, screened for developmental and sensory issues (hearing and vision) at early childhood development centers. Early results show a 30% referral rate for developmental issues, 6% for hearing, and 5% for vision problems. The combined screening took just 11.72 minutes on average. Post-screening feedback is overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating the viability of mHealth-supported screenings for early detection in underserved communities.
