Combined Therapy Shows Promise for Myopic Choroidal Neovascularization

A study compared the effectiveness of anti-VEGF therapy alone versus anti-VEGF followed by posterior scleral reinforcement (PSR) in managing myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV) associated with myopic maculopathy. Ninety-five high myopia patients were included. Those treated with anti-VEGF followed by PSR showed significantly smaller increases in patchy chorioretinal atrophy (pCRA) size and better visual acuity outcomes than those receiving only anti-VEGF therapy. At 24 months, 58.3% of eyes in the anti-VEGF group, followed by the PSR group, gained more than 2 lines of visual acuity, compared to 28.6% in the anti-VEGF group alone. These findings suggest that combining anti-VEGF therapy with PSR may offer superior long-term outcomes for managing myopic maculopathy in mCNV eyes.
