Comparative Effectiveness of Occlusal Splints in Managing Sleep Bruxism

A recent study evaluated the effectiveness of various occlusal splints in managing sleep bruxism, a common dental condition involving involuntary teeth grinding during sleep. Conducting a thorough literature review using the PICO framework, the study identified 15 relevant articles. Adjustable splints, particularly full-occlusion biofeedback splints, emerged as more effective in reducing sleep bruxism episodes and improving patient-reported symptoms. However, the impact on electromyographic activity varied, emphasizing the need for individual consideration of potential adverse effects. The findings affirm occlusal splint therapy as a viable treatment for sleep bruxism.
