A study compared the efficacy of secukinumab, an IL-17A monoclonal antibody, with TNF inhibitors (TNFi) for the treatment of Takayasu arteritis (TAK). The study included patients with active TAK who were unresponsive to glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive agents. The results showed that both secukinumab and TNFi were effective in treating TAK patients, with similar response rates at 3 and 6 months. The complete response rate was 31.6% and 52.6% for secukinumab at 3 and 6 months, respectively, while for TNFi, it was 58.8% and 64.7% at 3 and 6 months, respectively. These findings suggest that secukinumab may be a viable treatment option for TAK patients who do not respond to conventional therapies.
