Comparing MIS TLIF vs. MIDLIF in Spondylolisthesis: A Surgical Outcome Study

A study compared outcomes between minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS TLIF) and midline lumbar interbody fusion (MIDLIF) in spondylolisthesis patients. Among 37 patients who underwent MIS TLIF and 50 who had MIDLIF, the one-year fusion rate and time to bony fusion were similar. However, the MIDLIF group experienced lower Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scores at 3 months and 1 year post-op, shorter operation times (166.1 minutes vs. 196.2 minutes), and a lower rate of facet joint violation (2% vs. 21.6%). These results suggest that while MIS TLIF and MIDLIF provide similar fusion outcomes, MIDLIF might offer benefits in terms of reduced postoperative pain and shorter surgery times.
