This study conducted a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) to compare the advantages and disadvantages of open, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The results showed that laparoscopic and robotic-assisted approaches were comparable to open nephrectomy regarding various surgical outcomes such as ischemia time, intra-operative complications, positive surgical margins, operative time, and trifecta rate. However, robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy demonstrated benefits over open nephrectomy in terms of estimated blood loss, post-operative complications, and length of stay. The study suggests that robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy is a preferable approach for lower-staged RCC patients undergoing surgery.
