A study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine compared the outcomes of patients undergoing revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with those undergoing primary ACLR. The study included 672 participants who completed functional testing and reported outcomes. The results showed that at 7 months postoperatively, patients who had undergone revision ACLR did not have worse patient-reported outcomes, limb symmetry, strength, or functional performance compared to those who had undergone primary ACLR. However, patients with revision ACLR had lower limb symmetry and strength compared to uninjured controls. The study suggests that revision ACLR patients still face challenges in achieving outcomes similar to primary ACLR patients and uninjured individuals.
