
The complement system is essential to the body's defense against infections and harmful antigens. However, recent discoveries have revealed that complement also plays unexpected roles within cells, known as the complosome, influencing various physiological processes such as mitochondrial activity, cell survival, and gene regulation in immune and non-immune cells. Dysregulated complosome activity is implicated in various human diseases, renewing interest in complement as a therapeutic target. This study summarizes the complosome's role in cellular homeostasis, disease pathogenesis, and potential therapeutic implications.
