A recent study comprising 183 early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD) patients sheds light on the intriguing link between hyposmia and cardiac sympathetic denervation (CSD). The research utilized the Cross-Cultural Smell Identification Test (CC-SIT) and 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine (123I-MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy. Factor analysis of the CC-SIT identified five distinct smell factors, with Factor 5 significantly correlating with the H/M ratio in PD patients with CSD. These findings suggest a selective association between olfactory dysfunction and cardiac sympathetic burden in PD, offering potential insights into the nuanced manifestations of the disease.
