Cosmetic Filler and PET Positivity: The Risk of a False Positive

The article discusses a case of false positive PET imaging results in a patient with angiosarcoma following hyaluronic acid filler injection. The study highlights the importance of awareness of the appearance of injectable fillers on PET imaging for patient counseling prior to procedures and for the interpretation of imaging results. The study concludes that fillers, including hyaluronic acid, can cause elevated SUV on PET-CT and otolaryngologists should be aware of these features to improve patient counseling, avoid unnecessary procedures, and reduce patient anxiety.
