This systematic review examined the relationship between macronutrient intake and weight loss after bariatric surgery. Eight articles with 2,378 subjects were included, and the studies found a positive relationship between weight loss and protein intake after surgery. Prioritizing protein followed by carbohydrates with a lower percentage of lipids favors weight loss and increases weight stability after surgery. High-protein intake of more than 60g to 90g per day may favor weight loss and maintenance after bariatric surgery, but it is important to balance the other macronutrients.
