COVID-19 Increases Risk of Delirium in Critically Ill Patients

The study aimed to compare the incidence of delirium between critically ill patients with and without COVID-19. It was a retrospective study conducted in a Brazilian hospital from March 2020 to January 2021. The results showed that COVID-19 patients had a significantly higher incidence of delirium than non-COVID-19 patients. However, among patients who were mechanically ventilated for two days or more, there was no difference in the incidence of delirium between the two groups. The duration of mechanical ventilation was the only independent factor associated with delirium.
