CST6 and UPC2A Mutants Alter Fluconazole Resistance in Candida glabrata

The study investigates the role of CST6 and UPC2A in Candida glabrata fluconazole resistance. Loss-of-function mutants of CST6 suppress fluconazole hyper-susceptibility in upc2A∆ mutants, but this suppression is not due to ergosterol restoration or increased CDR1 expression. Instead, it is linked to enhanced EPA3 expression and reduced mitochondrial function. These findings highlight the complex relationship between mitochondrial activity and azole resistance in Candida glabrata.
