
A study sheds light on the role of immune checkpoints in giant cell arteritis (GCA), analyzed data from the WHO pharmacovigilance database, and found a significant association between GCA occurrence and treatment with anti-CTLA-4 drugs. Further investigations using various techniques revealed dysregulation of the CTLA-4 pathway in GCA patients, particularly in CD4+T cells and regulatory T cells. Despite being less abundant, these regulatory T cells showed increased expression of CTLA-4. The findings suggest that targeting the CTLA-4 immune checkpoint could be a promising approach in GCA treatment.
