Cumulative BMI and incident prediabetes over 30 years of follow‐up

A 30-year observational study involving 4,190 individuals has found that higher cumulative BMI (cBMI) is linked to an increased risk of prediabetes, affecting 46.2% of the participants. The study, conducted within the CARDIA study, highlights the significance of maintaining a healthy weight throughout young adulthood to middle age to prevent prediabetes. Results show that those with the highest cBMI had a 2.06 times greater risk of prediabetes compared to the lowest quartile. This emphasizes the importance of early weight management in preventing prediabetes.
