Cyclosporine Nanoemulsion vs. Hyaluronic Acid for Dry Eyes

A study compared 0.05% cyclosporine nanoemulsion (CsN) and 0.15% hyaluronic acid (HA) in 35 patients with mild-to-moderate dry eyes. Treatment lasted 12 weeks, with evaluations at 4, 8, and 12 weeks. The CsN group demonstrated significant improvements in tear film break-up time and fluorescein staining scores compared to baseline at all time points. Although the Schirmer I test showed no significant changes, both treatments improved symptoms as per the Symptom Assessment in Dry Eye (SANDE) score. The Dry Eye-Related Quality-of-life Score Questionnaire (DEQS) did not show significant changes. CsN provided greater and faster improvement in objective signs and symptoms compared to HA.
