The efficacy and safety of cysteamine 0.55% eye drops were evaluated in six Japanese cystinosis patients with corneal cystine crystals over 52 weeks. In vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) scores showed a downward trend across corneal layers, with decreased smoothed intensity in four patients by Week 16. Most patients reported improved photophobia assessments. Thirty-three adverse events (AEs) were reported in five patients, with tingling sensation being the most frequent local reaction. No serious AEs or deaths occurred. The findings demonstrated that cysteamine eye drops effectively reduced corneal cystine crystals and were well tolerated.
