New coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become an international emergency. Intensive care unit (ICU) patients with the disease also present multiple organ failure, so that that blood purification techniques might be a good choice in their treatment. The study aimed to investigate the role of cytokine removal in COVID-19 patients managed in ICUs. The study has demonstrated a decrease in CRP, fibrinogen and increase in lymphocyte count in the patients having cytokine adsorption. Still, there was no clinical reflection of these benefits and no reduction in mortality. Even though there is a physiopathologic rationale to use cytokine adsorption techniques for immunomodulation in critically ill COVID-19 patients, it is early to make strong suggestions about their benefits.

Blocking miR-30e-5p reduced atherosclerosis in obese and atherosclerotic mice, highlighting a potential therapeutic pathway.

Among 38 dichotomous outcomes, only 8 were significant, with a median fragility index of 5. In over one-fifth of outcomes, loss to follow-up exceeded the number of event changes needed to reverse statistical significance.

A prospective UK Biobank study of 385,502 adults found that greater residential exposure to green space and natural environments was associated with a lower risk of developing COPD. Blue-space associations were weaker and inconsistent, supporting environmental strategies for COPD prevention.

The model could refine diagnosis and help redefine the biological limits of vital pulp therapy.

Cyclosporine 0.09% and 0.1% ranked highest for corneal staining improvement, while tacrolimus showed early improvements in tear production and stability. Varenicline increased tear production but needs further comparative validation.
