Detecting deceased patients on cardiac device remote monitoring: a case series and management guide for cardiac device

Detecting patient deaths through remote monitoring (RM) of cardiac devices poses unique challenges. This nine-year study (2014-2023) involving 28 patients revealed that ventricular arrhythmias, lead measurements, and implantable loop recorder (ILR) battery status were common indicators of death. Recognizing deaths via alert transmissions was pre-existing in 54% of cases. The study recommends establishing standard operational policies and legal consultation to address the complexities of patient death detection through RM.
