The study evaluated different MRI definitions of knee osteoarthritis (OA) and compared their performance to prevalent radiographic OA and symptomatic OA. The researchers used the Whole-Organ MRI Score system to score cartilage damage, osteophytes, bone marrow lesions, and synovitis. They found that an MRI definition requiring cartilage damage and a small osteophyte with or without bone marrow lesions or synovitis had the highest sensitivity for prevalent radiographic OA and symptomatic OA and was simplest to apply.
