Development and preliminary validation of an Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) for a partial pulpotomy procedure

The study aimed to develop and validate an Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) tool for partial pulpotomy, a dental procedure. The study assessed three groups of dental participants with varying levels of clinical experience using a procedure-specific checklist (PSC) and a global rating score (GRS). The PSC showed good internal consistency and interrater reliability, indicating its reliability as an assessment tool. It also demonstrated construct validity by differentiating performance based on experience level. There was a positive correlation between the PSC and GRS scores. The developed OSATS checklist is a promising tool for assessing technical skills in partial pulpotomy and should be further validated with larger cohorts.
