Development of a novel prognostic signature derived from enhancer RNA‐regulated genes in head neck squamous cell carcinoma

The study aimed to develop a prognostic signature for head neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) using eRNA-regulated genes (ERGs). ERGs were identified through co-expression between survival-related eRNAs and their targets. The ERG signature was developed through regression analysis and successfully stratified patients into subgroups with distinct survival. An ERG nomogram was also constructed and showed satisfactory performance in prognostication. The biological roles of a specific eRNA were explored in vitro, showing a reduction in transcript level of SLC2A9 and impaired cell proliferation and invasion upon inhibition. The study establishes ERG signature and nomogram as powerful prognostic predictors for HNSCC.
