
The administration of dexmedetomidine during the perioperative period demonstrated significant benefits in improving postoperative gastrointestinal recovery in patients under general anesthesia. Meta-analysis of 20 studies (n=2,470) revealed reduced incidences of postoperative nausea and vomiting (RR=0.72; 95% CI: 0.58–0.88; p=0.001), shortened time to first flatus (MD=−6.73 minutes; p=0.0002), and decreased time to first defecation (MD=−12.01 minutes; p=0.02).
