Diabetes Linked to Increased Colorectal Cancer Risk

Individuals of low socioeconomic status and African American race face a disproportionate burden of Type 2 diabetes and colorectal cancer (CRC). A recent cohort study explores the underexamined connection between diabetes and CRC risk. Among 54,597 participants, diabetes was associated with a 47% higher risk of CRC, with greater effects observed in those without colonoscopy screenings or with recent diabetes diagnoses. The study underscores the potential impact of diabetes prevention and control in reducing CRC disparities, especially when coupled with timely screenings.
