Diagnostic accuracy of MRI in the differential diagnosis between uterine leiomyomas and sarcomas

A recent meta-analysis involving 2495 women has revealed that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a highly accurate tool for distinguishing between uterine leiomyomas (common benign tumors) and sarcomas (rare malignant tumors). The analysis, which included eight studies, demonstrated that MRI had a sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 96%, with an impressive diagnostic odds ratio of 175.13. These findings suggest that MRI can serve as a reliable second-line diagnostic method, following ultrasound, for assessing uterine masses. The study's results pave the way for improved early diagnosis and management of uterine tumors.
