Diagnostic Utility for the Diagnosis of Paediatric Pulmonary Tuberculosis

A study was conducted between January 2021 and June 2022 at the Microbiology Department of the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, 70 pediatric patients were included. Gastric aspirate (GA) and induced sputum (IS) samples were collected for analysis. The study revealed that GeneXpert offers faster detection of pediatric TB compared to microscopy. The sensitivity of the cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test (CBNAAT) against mycobacterial growth indicator tube (MGIT) was 75.0% for GA samples and 63.64% for IS samples. The results indicated that GA samples provided superior smear and culture yields compared to IS samples. Combining GA and IS samples yielded the best diagnostic results, emphasizing the importance of multiple sampling methods for accurate diagnosis of pediatric TB.
